On November 1, 2006, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei attended and addressed the Asia Foundation U.S.-China Dinner Dialogue upon invitation.

He briefed on the latest developments of Sino-U.S. ties, pointing out that the sound bilateral ties not only conform to the fundamental interest of the two peoples, but also are conducive to peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large. So long as the two sides view and handle Sino-U.S. relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, proceed from the two peoples' fundamental interest and common interest of people around the world, expand cooperation areas, properly address differences and sensitive issues, further strengthen dialogue and communication and build up mutual trust, they can push Sino-U.S. constructive cooperative relations for steady, sound and sustained development.

He appreciated the Asia Foundation's positive efforts in pushing forward exchanges and cooperation between the U.S. and Asia, in particular in advancing mutual understanding and friendship between China and the U.S. and hoped the foundation will make new contributions to sound and steady development of bilateral ties.
