On the afternoon of July 6, 2004, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo met with Mongolian President Nachagyn Bagabandy in the Great Hall of the People.
Wu Bangguo said to Bagabandy that China and Mongolia are important neighbors to each other, and over half a century despite the great changes in the international situation and the conditions of the two countries, the friendship between the two peoples have continuously deepened. In particular, since the normalization of bilateral relations, the two countries have supported and closely coordinated with each other in international and regional affairs with their frequent exchanges of high-level visits and increasingly active economic and trade cooperation. To further develop the good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust between the two countries is not only in line with the fundamental interest of the two countries, but also conducive to peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region.
When talking about exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries, Wu Bangguo indicated that in recent years the National People's Congress (NPC) of China and the State General Hural of Mongolia have witnessed active exchanges and good cooperation. This has not only brought closer bilateral friendly, cooperative relations, but also deepened mutual understanding and trust of the two peoples so as to inject new vitality to China-Mongolia good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust. China's NPC would like to continue to strengthen friendly exchanges with the State General Hural of Mongolia in a bid to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
Bagabandy noted that he fully agrees to Wu's positive comments on bilateral relations and exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries. He said that the legislative bodies of China and Mongolia have maintained close contacts over many years and have played an important role in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. He hopes that both sides would further expand exchanges and boost cooperation within the international parliamentary organization.
