On April 18, the Consulate General of China in San Francisco celebrated the 7th International Chinese Language Day, which attracted over 300 participants—including students, teachers, principals, and parents—from more than 30 primary, secondary, and tertiary educational institutions across the Bay Area.
In his remarks, Consul General Zhang Jianmin emphasized that communication and mutual understanding have always been the prevailing themes of the world. He hoped American youth to master the Chinese language to help spark their colorful dreams; he also urged them to respond to President Xi Jinping’s initiative of “50,000 in Five Years” , to carry forward the spirit of “Ping-Pong Diplomacy”, and to serve as envoys of people-to-people friendship between China and the United States.
Drawing upon their own experiences, the two guest speakers encouraged young people to master the Chinese language and strengthen exchanges with China. Three students shared their personal reflections regarding their exchange experiences in China.

Madam Zheng Xin, wife of Consul General Zhang, joined the students in singing Chinese songs, while the teachers and students also presented a vibrant array of performances, featuring Chinese dances, Erhu, Xiangsheng, and more, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere. Attendees also enjoyed Chinese cuisine, interacted with “giant panda” and robots, participated in hands-on activities such as crafting traditional lacquer fans, trying on traditional Hanfu attire, watched videos featuring American teenagers visiting China and the application of AI in Chinese language teaching, and visited “Study in China”, “Hello, China” and Chinese Picture Books exhibition booths.
