From June 3 to 4, Consul General Zhang Jianmin and his wife Zheng Xin visited the State of Oregon. During the visit, Consul General Zhang accompanied a delegation led by Vice Governor Wang Jinfu from Fujian province to meet with Governor Tina Kotek. He also attended the reopening ceremony of the Oregon China Sister State Committee (OCSSC) and delivered a speech. President of the Oregon State Senate Rob Wagner welcomed Consul General Zhang at a Senate plenary session, and other legislators exchanged views with him.
Consul General Zhang said that as President Xi Jinping pointed out, “The hope of the China-US relationship lies in the people, its foundation is in the two societies, its future depends on the youth, and its vitality comes from exchanges at subnational levels.” The State of Oregon has taken the lead in fostering friendship with China. The State Senate has recently reaffirmed Oregon’s strong commitment to China-US relations by passing Resolution SCR32, and the State Legislature has reinstated the OCSSC. Cooperation across various fields has yielded significant results, delivering tangible benefits to our peoples. It is hoped that both sides will uphold this commitment to friendship, sustain the momentum of subnational exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields to deliver more benefits to our two peoples.
