Consul General Zhang Jianmin and Minister Lyu Jiang Jointly Visit Oregon

From September 12 to 15, 2023, a delegationled by Consul General Zhang Jianmin from the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco and Minister Lyu Jiang at the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, undertook a joint visit to the State of Oregon. Consul General Zhang's wife, Zheng Xin, Counsellor Wu Peimin from the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco and Counsellor Jiao Dian from the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. joined the delegation during the visit.

During their stay in Oregon, the delegation engaged in meaningful discussionswith political leaders, including Governor Tina Kotek of Oregon, State Senator Bill Hansell and Mayor Ted Wheelerof Portland. These friendly conversations were centered on the important topics of China-U.S. relations and sub-national cooperation.

The delegation participated in extensive dialogues with representatives from various sectors, including the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Oregon Wheat Growers League, Oregon Hazelnut Commission, Pendleton Woolen Mills and Oregon State University. These interactions aimed to explore opportunities for economic, trade and agricultural collaboration. Furthermore Consul General Zhang and Minister Lyu sat down with the East Oregonian for an exclusive interview, highlighting the significance of reinforcing practical cooperation, particularly in fields like agriculture, to improve and further advance China-U.S. relations.

As part of their visit, Consul General Zhang, Minister Lyu, and the delegation were invited to attend the “Pendleton Round-up” events held in eastern Oregon. They received a warm welcome from the local community.
