2022-10-06 01:10

On September 30, 2022, Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco and the San Francisco City Hall co-hosted the China National Day flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall. Consul General Zhang Jianmin hoisted the Chinese national flag together with Meron Foster, representative of the Mayor and chief protocol of San Francisco. Deputy Consul General Pan Qingjiang, Zou Yonghong, Zhou Maoyi and other officials of the Consulate, Associate Regional Director Julio Garcia-Medina of the San Francisco Regional Office of Foreign Missions of the U.S. Department of State, officials of the San Francisco Municipality, representatives of local political and business circles and Chinese community attended the event.

Consul General Zhang thanked the City and County of San Francisco for co-hosting the celebration of China's National Day with the Chinese side, saying that this year is of special significance to China-US relations. 50 years ago, President Nixon's visit to China started the process of normalizing the relationship between the two countries. Just as President Xi Jinping pointed out, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the three principles to be followed in developing China-US relations, which constitute the correct path for the major countries to get along with each other in the new era. A healthy and stable China-US relationship will not only enhance the well-being of the two peoples, but also benefit all countries in the world. San Francisco has played an important and unique role in Sino-US exchanges. We look forward to taking this flag-raising ceremony as an opportunity to further deepen the friendly exchanges between San Francisco and Chinese cities in various fields.

On behalf of San Francisco Mayor Breed, Foster expressed congratulations on China’s National Day and appreciated the important contribution made by the Chinese people and the Chinese community to the development of San Francisco. Foster presented a certificate of congratulations from San Francisco to Consul General Zhang, proclaiming October 1, 2022 as the "Chinese-American Friendship and Heritage Day" in San Francisco.
